On September 16, Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives H.E. Mr. Kong Xianhua attended the Workshop ‘From Maldives to the Global Market–Unlocking E-commerce with Alibaba’. Maldivian Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed and Counselor Mr. Zhang Xu were also present.

The Workshop was co-hosted by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Maldives and Alibaba.com International, attracting more than 500 business people and company representatives from across the country.

Ambassador Kong noted that the implementation of the China-Maldives Free Trade Agreement (CMFTA) this year not only facilitates bilateral trade, but more importantly, provides a platform for Chinese investment and support in the Maldives. He emphasized that this Workshop is an important step in advancing the CMFTA, and expressed the hope that Maldivian businesses can better leverage e-commerce platforms to enhance their competitiveness, further deepening economic integration and shared development between the two countries.

Minister Saeed thanked the Chinese government and the Embassy for their consistent support, and expressed hope that Maldivian enterprises and products will enter the global market through digital trade, contributing to economic growth and the realization of the government’s development vision.
