On March 21, Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives H.E. Mr. Kong Xianhua attended the groundbreaking ceremony for development of 1,224 housing units in Hulhumalé. Also present were Maldivian President Dr. Muizzu and his wife, Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Muththalib, Minister of Health Mr. Ibrahim, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mr. Ameen, Minister of Social and Family Development Dr. Shiham, Chairman of CMEC Group Mr. Wang Bo, and Vice-President Mr. Xie Ke.

The project is located in Hulhumalé Phase II, with the Bank of Maldives as the client and CMEC Group as the contractor. It is expected to be completed in 2028. As part of the government's affordable housing program, the project will effectively alleviate the Maldives' growing housing pressure. Upon completion, it will be a significant achievement in China-Maldives cooperation on people's livelihoods under the Belt and Road Initiative framework, further deepening practical cooperation between the two countries and promoting the building of a China-Maldives community with a shared future.
