On July 16, Ambassador Kong Xianhua of the People’s Republic of China to the Maldives met with President Mohamed Shakeel of the Elections Commission of the Maldives.

Ambassador Kong briefed on the system of multiparty cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, whole-process people’s democracy, and the 15th Five-Year Plan. He noted that the Elections Commission plays an important role in the Maldivian multiparty democracy and expressed China’s willingness to engage in experience exchanges and mutual learning with the Maldivian side and continue to support the Maldives in exploring a development path suited to its national conditions.

Shakeel expressed the appreciation of China’s governance philosophy and achievements in democratic practice and expectation to strengthen exchanges and dialogue with China, draw on China’s experience, constantly improve political and civil education and lay a solid political foundation for the Maldives to achieve economic and social development as well as to improve people’s livelihood.
