On 20 October, Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives H.E. Kong Xianhua attended the handover ceremony of the “China Solar Lights Maldives” project. H.E. Dr Abdulla Muththalib, Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development participated in the event.

Ambassador Kong remarked that the solar lights carry the profound friendship between China and Maldives. The “China Solar Lights Maldives” project serves as a vivid manifestation of the two countries’ shared aspirations and a shared future in climate governance. Steadfastly advancing the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, China stands ready to continue being a reliable partner for the Maldives in its green transition and efforts to tackle climate change.

H.E. Minister thanked China for its valuable support extended to the Maldives over the years. He stated that the “China Solar Lights Maldives” project brings tangible benefits to local residents and fully demonstrates Maldives‑China friendship. The Maldivian government looks forward to further expanding practical cooperation with China in the fields of green energy and infrastructure.
