Maldives, known as the Blue Heaven floating on Indian Ocean, has been always on the top list of most popular overseas tourist destinations for Chinese tourists since the millennium. From 2010 on, China became Maldives’ No.1 market and has kept its leading position until the pandemic. 

As direct flights between the two countries increasing, more and more Chinese couples and families chose Maldives to enjoy their holidays, which pushed the number of Chinese tourists to over 324,000 in 2016, a peak record that hasn’t been hit until now.

Tourism Cooperation has always been a vital part of China-Maldives relations. Recently, H.E. Ambassador Wang Lixin met with Hon. Abdulla Mausoom, Minister of Tourism. The two sides reviewed remarkable achievements on tourism cooperation between the two countries and exchanged views on the future cooperation. 

The year 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of China-Maldives diplomatic relations & Maldives tourism. As a tribute to China-Maldives friendship, we’re glad to announce that the outbound tourism for Chinese citizens will be resumed orderly very soon. Chinese side is always ready to work with Maldivian side to promote tourism cooperation, opening a new chapter for Maldives’ tourism & economy development and our bilateral relations!
