On Feb. 4th, the Hangzhou Asian Games Fun Run Maldives was held in Hulhumalé. Chinese Ambassador Wang Lixin, President of the Maldives Olympic Committee Mr. Mohamed Abdul Sattar, Maldivian Foreign Secretary Ahmed Latheef, Director of Media and Broadcast Department of OCA Mr. Zhou Jian, and Director of Co-host cities Department HAGOC Ms. Song Jianbo took part in the event.

President Sattar hoped that through the Fun Run event, people would learn more about the Hangzhou Asian Games, which will run from Sep. 23 to Oct. 8. He said that Maldives would send more than 200 athletes to the Hangzhou Asian Games and hoped they could achieve good results then.

Ambassador Wang Lixin expressed her appreciation to the Maldivian side for organising the fun run to promote the Hangzhou Asian Games. She believed the Hangzhou Asian Games would provide a good opportunity to promote sports exchanges and cooperation between China and the Maldivesand other Asian countries, and Hangzhou would present spectacular Asian Games to the world. She also wished a great success of Maldivian athletes at the Asian Games in Hangzhou.

An amazing surprise of today's fun run is that the run was started by blowing the sangu. It is said that in the past, the island chief would call the islanders to gather by blowing the sangu (or conch shells). It's calling us to explore the richness of culture and Asian Games.

The Fun Run helps spread joy and hope across Asia, enhance friendship among people in China and Maldives. The 3km Fun Run attracted hundreds of participants from more than 20 schools, 8 sports associations, Chinese people working and living in Maldives, as well as diplomats from Chinese Embassy in Maldives. The participants were awarded at the end of the event.
